Eat More Plants to Change Your Health!

Recently, when researchers compared the medical evidence for and against every mainstream diet (low carb, low fat, low glycemic, Mediterranean, mixed/balanced (DASH), Paleolithic, vegan, and elements of other diets), no diet single diet was proven best.

The interesting part was the study concluded that “a diet of minimally processed foods close to nature, predominantly plants, is decisively associated with health promotion and disease prevention.”

There is a growing wave of scientific evidence that the more plants you can eat, the healthier you are! It’s because plants fuel your body on a rich, cellular level. When you focus on eating more plants, you aren’t taking away processed sugar, unhealthy cholesterol, animal protein, cheese, and dairy products. You are adding more of an incredible array of phytonutrients, micronutrients, antioxidants, fiber, minerals, and more from plants!

SHOP THE PRODUCE SECTION FIRST — start planning your meals around what vegetables you will be eating instead of what protein. This starts with focusing your shopping to the perimeter of the grocery store.

HAVE PLANT-BASED CHOICES IN YOUR PANTRY — if your pantry has it, you will cook it. Many plant-based foods including beans, lentils, quinoa, millet, olive oil, spices, and canned tomatoes or artichokes are shelf-stable, which makes them very convenient. Nice bonus, these are more economical plant-based choices as well.

ASK YOUR CLOSEST FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR THEIR FAVORITE RECIPES! — this may seem obvious, but don’t be afraid to ask —you can get wonderful ideas for plant-based dishes from other people. We all have an “easy, favorite” recipe to share.

When you eat right (including more plants), you benefit yourself not just today and tomorrow but 20, 30, 50 years from now. When you eat poorly, the opposite is true — you do harm in the here and now but also support conditions that may be deadly in the future. Make good choices now and it will benefit you now and in the future, period!
